Independent Advice Grant

up to maximum of $750 per household to assist vulnerable homeowners with obtaining assistance on what to do with their earthquake damaged property.
 

The aim of this grant is to assist homeowners with their ability to make an informed decision on how to proceed with the repair, rebuild, or sale of their earthquake affected property; the purchase of new land and property; the building of a new house; or to obtain an independent property assessment and/or costings for the scope of works to support the decision as to whether the home is economic to repair or needs to be rebuilt. This grant could be used to obtain a geotechnical, engineers or structural report, or obtain information to check against offers received, such as from a builder or from quantity surveyor, or for legal or financial advice.

The grant is aimed at assisting vulnerable people whose property has been assessed at costing over $100,000 to repair and/or their land has been zoned red or Green/Blue (Technical Category 3). A vulnerable person can be defined as the applicant or a member of their household must either be disabled/have a pre-existing medical condition, or be over 65 yrs or have children who live with them who are under 18 years.

Please check that you have attached one from each of the three sections below::  

1. Please provide one of the following to prove that you are the current owner of the damaged home address applied for:

  • a certificate of title OR
  • a Mortgage document detailing your name and address of the affected property OR

2. a rates bill – If your land has NOT been zoned RED or GREEN/BLUE (TECHNICAL CATEGORY 3), then please provide proof that your damage exceeds $100,000.

3. Please provide proof that you or a member of your household is vulnerable by attaching relevant proof for one of the three categories below;

Either a) proof that you are aged 65 years or over, please provide a copy of one of the following:
  • super gold card OR
  • birth certificate OR
  • valid passport OR
  • driving license card with picture, Date of Birth and signature
Or b) Proof that you have a child or children aged under 18 years living at your damaged residential address, please provide a copy of one of the following:
  • plunket book for any children under 5 years – the front page of the book or whichever page has the sticker with barcode on it, which also contains health number, dob, full name & address at birth OR
  • birth certificate OR
  • valid passport OR
  • driving license card with picture, Date of Birth and signature
Or c) Proof that you or a member of your household is disabled or has a pre-existing medical condition, examples of which may include:
  • Copy of High User Health Card OR
  • recent letter from your GP regarding your disability or pre-existing medical condition OR
  • discharge letter from hospital regarding your admittance within the last year

NB This grant is not retrospective. Please ensure your application is approved BEFORE seeking a report or advice.
